At Vertas Group, our diverse workforce is one of our greatest strengths. To mark Hispanic Heritage Month, on Thursday 25th September, our team came together for a special appreciation event at the Lyceum Theatre.
The focus was on bringing together team members to share stories, celebrate culture, and reflect on what inclusion means to them.
In our London cleaning teams alone, over 55% of our colleagues are of Hispanic descent. Their dedication makes a lasting impact every day, and this event was an opportunity for us to show our gratitude.
Meet Some of Our Colleagues
We were honoured to hear several colleagues share insights into their heritage and experiences at Vertas over a cuppa.
- Diana Gonzalez, Site Manager at Lyceum Theatre, spoke about Colombia’s welcoming culture and stunning national parks. Diana added, “Vertas employs lots of South Americans, it’s easy to communicate and work together constructively.”
- Maria Craig, Site Manager, shared how important family is in Colombian culture and how her manager often uses Spanish phrases and terminology, saying, “I really like that she makes an effort. It’s very respectful.”
- Michael Florres, Site Supervisor, spoke about how the equator passes through his hometown of Quito, Ecuador and the beauty of the must-visit Galapagos Islands. Michael said, “Vertas feels like family to me.”
- Vanessa Echeverry, Site Supervisor at Phoenix Theatre, highlighted how the largest part of the Amazon rainforest is in Colombia and shared her gratitude for the support she has received, Vanessa said, “My son also works in the theatre, and I’m very grateful.”
- Jessica Borges, Cleaning Operative at Lyceum Theatre, from Brazil, discussed the Rio De Janeiro Carnival and her journey learning English. Jessica added, “Vertas have been patient with me. They show me tasks rather than just explaining to help me learn.”
Inclusion is a Continuous Commitment
Dan Lewis, National Account Manager, said: “We appreciate our colleagues all year round, however, following National Inclusion Week, we’re reminded that #NowIsTheTime, to continue ensuring we’re embedding inclusion into everything we do.
At Vertas, our colleagues serve as an inspiration, and we’re grateful for the richness they bring to the Group, in particular within our cleaning team. Thank you to our colleagues for being such an important part of our journey.”
