Building relationships is essential for business success, and the Passenger Transport team at Vertas prioritises this value in everything they do.
After a fire in the pupil toilets before Christmas, students from Otley Primary School had to relocate to Witnesham Primary School. The teamwork among all parties involved in the refurbishment works and temporary classrooms, Concertus, Suffolk County Council, and Seamans Building, was instrumental in the successful reopening of the school last month.
During this challenging period, another service area within the Group, impacted students’ daily lives – Vertas’ Passenger Transport team. In partnership with Suffolk County Council, once the classes were relocated, the team was responsible for transporting students between the two schools each morning and afternoon, creating an exciting new school run for the children and ensuring minimal disruption to their learning.
The students’ joy was palpable during the ribbon-cutting ceremony, especially when they saw the Vertas coach arrive. Hannah Evans, Executive Headteacher at both schools, said: “We were so grateful for the support of the Vertas Passenger Transport team and for Sonny. He made such a positive impact on all of the children and became part of our school!”
The team worked diligently to create lasting memories each day. One driver in particular, Sonny Mayhew from our Great Blakenham depot, made a significant impression on the children, who cheered for him during the official reopening. Upon reflection, Sonny said, “Serving the welcoming and friendly group of children and staff at Otley Primary School was an absolute pleasure. When I returned for the official opening, everyone made me feel valued and appreciated. I hope to revisit them to support with school trips in the future”.
The Vertas Group’s commitment to building strong relationships and enhancing the student experience helped create a foundation of trust and positivity, turning a difficult situation into an uplifting experience in times of adversity.
The remarkable collaboration made the reopening event a cherished memory for students, teachers, and families alike.
