As part of National Apprenticeship Week’s (NAW) Skills for Life theme, Vertas Group is pleased to showcase the lasting impact of apprenticeships on colleagues and the business.
Across the company, we’re keen to invest in apprenticeships, striving to create a skilled workforce and provide colleagues with lifelong learning opportunities. Skills for Life highlights the long-term value of apprenticeships in equipping individuals with knowledge and expertise that extend beyond their studies.
Last February, we spoke to Keavi Rickards during her CIPD Apprenticeship. Now, having progressed within the company, Keavi shares how completing an apprenticeship has shaped her career and the lasting impact it has had.
When we last caught up with you, Keavi, you were completing your CIPD Apprenticeship. How did your apprenticeship go, and how has your role developed since completing it?
I completed my apprenticeship at the end of Summer 2024, achieving my Level 5 HR Consultant / Business Partner Apprenticeship and an Associate Diploma in People Management. Since then, my career has developed significantly at Vertas Group into the role of People Advisor (I made it!).
Can you share an example of how the skills/knowledge gained during your apprenticeship have helped you in your current role?
It’s great to gain a better understanding of the theory and then apply this directly to the real world! Particularly, through my apprenticeship, I have gained an extensive understanding of employment law, which I rely on day-to-day to provide the best advice in the interest of Vertas Group and our people, at the heart of our business.
What support did you receive from Vertas Group and how did this help complete your apprenticeship?
Throughout my apprenticeship, my line manager and fellow peers within the People Team were very supportive. They’ve guided me, shared experiences and offered a safe space to learn.
What would you say to someone considering an apprenticeship with our company? How is this different to other opportunities?
Vertas Group is a very people-driven company that wants its colleagues to exceed. I am very grateful that I had this opportunity to enhance my career and undertake valuable practical learning, which would not have been possible without the support from Vertas. There are so many apprenticeships on offer; all it takes is a conversation – you won’t regret it!
