Building a Lasting Career: Vaida Narutaviciute Learning at Work Week

Submitted by Connie Maddock | 15/05/2025

For Learning at Work Week, Vertas Group is proud to spotlight the incredible individuals who have worked to develop their careers within the business.

Vaida Narutaviciute joined the Group in 2015 and is now Facilities Management (FM) Supervisor at Vertas. She is an excellent example of embracing the opportunity to learn at work.

Now, as a valued team member and Making the Difference Awards winner, Vaida brings a huge amount of personality and a deep sense of pride in her work. She works hard and is a true ambassador for what it means to grow at Vertas Group.

Her dedication to development is a true inspiration, and we’re excited to share Vaida’s story. A reminder that learning doesn’t stop when you start work but continues every day, and we’re proud to support this across the Group.

Can you tell us how your role has changed since you started at Vertas Group and what you’ve learned along the way?

I started in September 2015 as an evening cleaner. After a few months, I became a supervisor for night-time cleaning before taking over as warehouse operative for Snackpax, part of Vertas Group, which allowed me to spend more time with my daughter.

I managed most of the operations myself, taking customer orders, loading vans, and organising stock. I also got my forklift licence, and I really grew in that role.
After COVID hit, I moved to a new role with Verse FM. I had great support from Sarah Hunt, my manager, she helped my confidence and has been an excellent role model. She is a great leader, always taking the time to guide me, and I truly look up to her.

Since March 2025, I’ve been looking after FM in West Suffolk, working under Lee Johns. I’ve also started my ILM Level 2 apprenticeship, along with Maths and English, with the support of Vertas Group. This year, it is 10 years since I started, and I’m really proud of how far I’ve come and I feel very supported by both Sarah and Lee.

How have your colleagues around you supported or inspired you in your learning?

I’ve had great support throughout my journey. Sarah Hunt has been amazing, she’s someone I’ve really learned from, not just professionally but personally, too.
Also, the Verse team has been amazing, helping me every day. It feels like a big family you can count on.

Are there any projects you’re proud of where you felt supported in your learning, and how did that support help you succeed?

I’m proud of how I managed operations at Snackpax. I had to learn everything from systems to logistics to customer service, but my managers trusted me, which helped me grow a lot.

Also, when I joined Verse, it was a different kind of challenge, but I felt so supported. That gave me the confidence to speak up more and take on new tasks. I won the “Going the Extra Mile” award at the 2017 Making the Difference Awards. This was a huge achievement, and it meant a lot to be recognised. It showed me that if you work hard, it won’t go unnoticed.

What skills have developed the most during your time here, and how have those helped you make an impact in your work?

I’ve improved a lot in communication and leadership. My English also got much better, helping me feel more confident talking to people, solving problems, and working with teams. I used to be very quiet and unsure, but now I feel able to lead and support others.

At the beginning, the language barrier was hard. Even now, sometimes I still forget words or get stuck, but I’ve always felt supported. No one ever made me feel bad about it. You’ll get a lot of support. You just have to be brave and ask for it.

What would you say to someone new to Vertas about making the most of the learning opportunities available?

Don’t be afraid to start from the bottom, that’s what I did.

What matters most is your attitude and willingness to learn. When I joined, I had no idea where my journey would take me. Now, I’ve worked across different roles, managed operations, got my forklift licence, and I’m doing my ILM apprenticeship. All because I said yes, even when I was nervous. Ask questions, accept support, and don’t be scared to make mistakes.

Even small steps can take you far if you keep going.
