Will New Carbon Regulations Hit Your Business?

Submitted by Amelia O'Hanlon | 15/01/2020

New legislation around the reporting of energy consumption and carbon emissions means that over 11,000 UK businesses and third-sector organisations will be legally required to report their consumption and emissions publicly each year.

Organisations that answer yes to two or more of the questions below will be affected.

  • Do you employ more than 250 people?
  • Do you have an annual turnover of more than £36 million?
  • Do you have an annual balance sheet total of more than £18 million?

If so, the Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) will apply to you and must be applied to reports for financial years starting on or after 1st April 2019.

It is the responsibility of the Financial Director to file the report each year and it must be filed with Companies House by the end of March 2020. The department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has confirmed that there will be no grace period for this.

If you’re concerned about this and unsure how to generate the report needed, we can help.

With years of experience in a wide range of energy services, and having created reports like this many times before, our experts are used to reporting carbon requirements to government agencies and can offer you a complete service.
