Exec Experiences Walking Mountains Challenge: colleagues reach fundraising high

Submitted by Connie Maddock | 21/10/2024

Vertas Group has hosted its fifth and final Exec Experiences event this October. The challenge saw colleagues climb a Scottish Graham, Ben Venue, raising funds for Cancer research.

Despite initial plans to scale a second peak, Ben A’an, the team was unfortunately unable to do so due to poor weather conditions. As a result, it took 7 hours to climb the first peak, leaving no time for Ben A’an.

The Walking Mountains Challenge

Vertas Group recently concluded its highly successful Exec Experiences fundraising series with its final event – a Walking Mountains challenge through the stunning Trossachs region of Scotland. Colleagues took to the peak of Ben Venue, testing their endurance and teamwork while raising funds for Cancer Research UK.

The team set off early on Friday morning and reached the peak of Ben Venue by 12:30 PM, which took much longer than expected due to terrible winds and rain, resulting in zero visibility. Afterwards, it took another three hours to reach the base car park, leaving no time to tackle Ben A’an as the light was going fast. Despite the challenges, the entire team completed the adventure in approximately seven hours, covering about 16 km and reaching an altitude of 729 meters at the highest point.

Exec Experience Events

The Exec Experience events launched earlier this year aimed to bring colleagues together while supporting a meaningful cause.

As with previous Exec Experiences events, the challenge was open to all company colleagues, with the only requirement being a commitment to raise £100. In total, the team has raised an impressive £5,800 and still climbing, smashing all initial fundraising goals.

As the final event in the Group’s incredible fundraising journey, the Climbing Mountains challenge marks a high point – both figuratively and literally – in the Group’s efforts to give back.

Having raised a total of £18,844 and counting, the Exec Experiences initiative has undoubtedly left a lasting impact, both on the company and the cause it supports.

Keith Buet, Chief Operating Officer, Vertas Group, said: “The Exec Experiences events have been far more successful than we could ever have imagined. It’s been an absolute privilege to lead the final event, ending our Group social value initiative on a high.”

For our colleagues who took part, this has been an incredible achievement; not only have they pushed their limits physically, but they have also made an impact on our chosen charity, Cancer Research UK. To our fantastic team, well done. We are so grateful for all your efforts – thank you for helping Vertas Group difference the difference.”
