Vertas was briefed to design and install a new Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) by Colneis Primary School in Felixstowe, Suffolk – a project costing £45,000.

Objectives

  • To construct a new Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) on the edge of the field from funding provided by the Government’s PE and sports premium fund
  • To install the latest 3G surface
  • To supply and install self-weighted goals complete with nets
  • To save on carbon footprint and expense.

Solution

  • Construction of a MUGA to support Colneis Primary School objective to enhance their sporting curriculum and encourage students to become more passionate and confident with their physical development
  • Installation of an artificial carpet (3G) filled with sand and a rubber top infill made from recycled car tyres to reduce the environmental impact, whilst providing a good, shock-absorbent playing surface designed to minimise injuries
  • Sourced self-weighted goals with nets suitable for the 3G pitch, allowing the ability to move the goals at short distance if required.

Benefits

  • The time-critical project was carried out in just six weeks during the summer holidays in 2019. Meeting this schedule required efficient planning and project management by our Tree and Grounds Advisor, Philip Middleditch
  • The expert advice from Philip meant that the original size of the pitch changed to ensure the school could accomplish their original goals
  • Philip’s innovative design set the goalposts into the fencing to keep the ground area clearer and more usable
  • The soil excavated was spread on the school field creating two play mounds for the children.

MUGAs are the perfect addition for schools looking to enhance the sporting curriculum and increase the level of active participation in sports as they provide a purpose-built spaced suitable for playing a wide range of games and activities.

If your school requires landscaping services, from painting lines on the basketball court to completely redesigning and resurfacing the entire outdoor area, the Vertas Grounds team can help. Please contact us to arrange your free consultation.

We are very pleased with the outcome of this project at Colneis.  It has provided us with an all weather sports area which allows our children to access an enhanced sporting provision throughout the year.  Philip’s knowledge of this area was a great help and he, along with his team, completed the project in six weeks with minimal disruption.  As a school, we felt that we were kept up to date with the progress of this project throughout.  We would certainly use Vertas again for our outdoor projects!
