COVID-19: Vertas Passenger Transport Deliver Help

Submitted by Amelia O'Hanlon | 08/04/2020

Vertas Passenger Transport were pleased to help the SENDAT (a multi-academy trust) Team support students confined to home during the COVID-19 crisis. Many of these young people and their families have serious underlying health issues or are financially vulnerable.

The SENDAT team identified the families needing help and gathered the contents of the care packages. Suffolk charity Gatehouse, British Sugar, and AllPack packaging supplies all contributed too with either goods or help. We became involved in the final stages by helping sort, pack and deliver nearly 400 welfare packages for the students and their families.

As well as vital fresh and dried food supplies and sanitary products, they included recipes, activities, books and some had homework activities. The parcels went to the students of The Priory School, Stone Lodge Academy, Angel Hill College and Chalk Hill.

The government’s National Food Vouchers scheme is now up and running, which should be a great help to these families. However, we at Vertas remain on standby and willing to help if required.

We are immensely proud of this great team effort from all. We’d like to thank the team who called in staff, planned routes, distributed run sheets, printed key worker letters, put in ad-hoc risk assessments and issued protective gloves.

We are very grateful to the drivers and passenger assistants who packed and delivered the care packages to support some of the most vulnerable households.
