Coasters and Striders Supporting Cancer Research UK

Submitted by Amelia O'Hanlon | 06/08/2019

In April our CEO proudly announced this year’s fundraising events. Following the success of last year’s sky dive, bike ride and walk, the Vertas directors planned to once again raise money for the nominated charity Cancer Research UK (CRUK). For 2019’s events, a bike ride and walk were chosen, with them taking place in July and an outcome just as successful as the previous year.

Our coasters, Ian Surtees MBA, FIoD (CEO), Duncan Johnson M.B.A, FIoD (Chairman) and Gerry Kassab (Non-executive Director), cycled 137 miles from Workington to Tynemouth in the Coast to Coast Charity Bike Ride which was sponsored by Marshall Leasing Limited. Upon completion of the 3-day journey, a total of £1061.25 (inc. Gift Aid) was raised for CRUK.

Alongside the Galloway Mountain Rescue Team and their canine helpers, our striders, Keith Buet (Group Operations Director) and Marcus Yarham (Group Finance Director), took on the Two Peaks in Scotland where they walked and climbed a total of 20 miles up and down two mountains. They completed the challenge in 10 hours and a total of £937.50 (inc. Gift Aid) was raised for the charity.

The success of the fundraising for these challenges has brought our company total raised to an incredible £33,928!
