The ten category winners and twenty runners up at the third annual Vertas Making the Difference Staff Awards at Milsoms Kesgrave Hall weren’t the only ones celebrating on Friday night (2 March 2018.)

Vertas Group Limited Chief Executive Officer Ian Surtees announced to 160 guests – made up of staff, clients and partners – that the group has decided to support Cancer Research UK as its official charity for a second year running.

Ian also presented a cheque for £8,500 to Nichola Whymark from Cancer Research UK, which represents the monies raised by staff and customers in this current financial year.

As well as school bake sales, employee sporting events and monthly dress down days, each of the Vertas directors has pledged to take on a fundraising challenge in 2018. Directors Marcus Yarham and Jo Lardent have committed to a yet-to-be-announced quest, while Ian Surtees will be cycling Coast to Coast, from the Cumbrian town of Workington, finishing 150 miles later at Tynemouth.

His team of ‘Vertas Coasters’ – Vertas Chairman Duncan Johnson, Non-executive Director Gerry Kassab and Area Catering Manager Jon Lakin – will be dipping their bike wheels in the Irish Sea on 10 April 2018. The Vertas Coasters are hoping to raise £1000 for CRUK https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Team/VertasCoaste…

Nichola Whymark from Cancer Research UK says of the relationship:

“Cancer Research UK relies solely on the generosity of our supporters like Vertas. The money raised to date could buy a microplate washer – a time saving device that frees up our researchers to concentrate on ground-breaking science, instead of the washing up! It could also fund our Cambridge Research Institute for one week. Thank you to everyone at Vertas and their suppliers for their amazing continued support. Together we will beat cancer sooner.”

Ian Surtees, Vertas Group Limited’s Chief Executive Officer, said:

“At the beginning of the 2017/18 financial year we started supporting Cancer Research UK by crowning them our Charity of the Year, as chosen by members of staff due to the incredible life-saving work the charity carries out.

I am delighted to announce that our charitable partnership with Cancer Research UK will continue for a further year into 2018/19; giving us the chance to continue raising much needed funds for the study into a disease that affects so many.”
